Why Plumbers Can't Rely on Reviews Anymore
If you're a plumber with years of quality work behind you, you'd think your reputation would speak for itself. But the reality is that online reviews have become nearly meaningless.
An estimated 30% of online reviews are fake. Competitors can buy hundreds of 5-star reviews for a few hundred dollars. Meanwhile, one angry customer — or worse, a competitor pretending to be a customer — can tank your rating overnight with a single 1-star review.
The platforms know this is a problem, but their solution is moderation after the fact. By the time a fake review gets flagged and removed, the damage is already done. You've already lost jobs to a company with a shinier rating and zero real track record.
Here's the bigger issue: a 4.8-star rating tells a homeowner nothing about how long you've been in business, how many customers come back to you, or whether you've ever had a chargeback dispute. It's just a number based on anonymous opinions.
That's why more plumbing professionals are turning to verified trust scores. Instead of relying on what strangers say about you online, a trust score is built from your actual payment data — transaction history, refund rates, repeat customers, and years of processing. It's data that can't be faked, bought, or manipulated.
If you've been doing honest work for years, you already have the data to prove it. The question is whether you're using it.
