  • Inconsistent risk criteria across underwriters
  • High-risk merchants slip through the cracks

With Merrisk

  • Pre-verified processing data available instantly
  • Transaction history pulled directly from processors
  • Real chargeback rates, refund rates, and trends
  • Standardized 100–1000 risk score for every merchant
  • Flag high-risk applicants before onboarding

How acquiring banks use Merrisk

Merchants connect their payment processors through Merrisk. You get a verified risk profile before making underwriting decisions.

01

Merchant connects processors

Applicants link their Stripe, PayPal, Square, or Shopify accounts through Merrisk's secure OAuth flow. No manual document uploads needed.

02

Merrisk generates a risk score

Our engine analyzes 9 verified data signals — chargeback rate, refund patterns, processing history, revenue stability, and more — to produce a dynamic score from 100 to 1000.

03

You make faster, better decisions

Access the merchant's verified Merrisk profile during application review. Approve with confidence, flag risks early, and reduce manual due diligence time.

Verified risk signals you can trust

Every Merrisk score is built from real payment processor data — not self-reported documents, not credit bureau estimates.

Processing history

How long the merchant has been actively processing payments in good standing.

Chargeback rate

Verified dispute frequency and outcomes — the strongest indicator of merchant risk.

Refund rate

Percentage of transactions refunded — low rates signal clear expectations and satisfaction.

Repeat customer rate

Returning buyers are the strongest proof of earned trust and real value delivery.

Revenue stability

Non-volatile revenue patterns without sharp unexplained spikes or sudden drops.

Transaction volume & growth

Monthly volume and 12-month trends showing consistent or growing activity.

Ongoing monitoring

Don't stop at onboarding. Merrisk scores update dynamically — monitor your merchant portfolio for risk changes over time, not just at application.

Questions from underwriting teams

Common questions from acquiring banks, payment facilitators, and ISOs evaluating Merrisk for merchant risk assessment.

How does Merrisk get the processing data? +
Merchants connect their payment platforms (Stripe, PayPal, Square, Shopify, etc.) through secure OAuth. Merrisk pulls aggregated metrics directly — we never access raw transaction data or sensitive financial information.
Can merchants manipulate their score? +
No. Scores are calculated from data pulled directly from payment processors via API. Merchants cannot edit, adjust, or influence the underlying data. The score reflects their actual processing performance.
What's the difference between Merrisk and a credit report? +
Credit reports show borrowing and repayment history. Merrisk shows operational performance — chargebacks, refunds, customer retention, transaction trends, and revenue stability. These are signals that credit bureaus don't capture but are critical for merchant underwriting decisions.
Can we integrate Merrisk into our underwriting workflow? +
Yes. Merrisk offers an API that delivers merchant risk scores and detailed signal breakdowns. You can embed it into your existing application review process or access merchant profiles through our dashboard.
What if a merchant hasn't connected to Merrisk yet? +
You can require applicants to create a Merrisk profile as part of your application process. Once they connect a payment platform, their score is typically generated within 24–48 hours.
